The equipment on a modeling bench grows piece by piece, and sooner or later a pickle jar stops being enough. A rack gives knives, scribers, files, tweezers and brushes a permanent place to be taken from and returned to, and above all it shows them whole, so that you reach straight for the right tool.
Tools stored upright do not knock against one another, so the edge of a scalpel and the point of a scriber keep working longer. It also does away with rummaging in a drawer, which with sharp tools is never safe. No less important is that it frees up the working area right in front of the model, where you need room for your hands, a cutting mat and the parts taken off the sprues.
For modelers with a permanently set-up workplace and a wider range of tools, who want them within reach and the bench free all the same. It serves equally well for building plastic models and for working with photo-etch and accessories, where the tools change almost at every step.
