The DSPIAE 2.8 mm tungsten steel drill bit is a single modeling bit for plastic. It works in a hand pin vise and in a micro drill, but each way calls for a different approach.
Responsibility details are not available.
A DSPIAE modeling drill bit, sold singly by diameter. This one is 2.8 mm and according to the name is intended for plastic models. Neither a holder nor a drive is included.
For plastic, a hand pin vise is a surprisingly more common choice even among experienced modelers. You have full control over both speed and pressure, the bit does not overheat and there is no risk of the tool jumping into the part at the moment it breaks through. The drawback is time, as with larger diameters and thicker walls you do a good deal of turning.
A micro drill speeds the work up but brings two risks. High speeds melt plastic rather than cut it, so a burr forms around the hole and melted material clings to the cutting edge. And as soon as the bit passes through the wall, it drops suddenly and may damage whatever is behind it. So if you do use a drill, go at the lowest possible speed, keep the part still and ease the pressure toward the end.
In both cases, mark a dimple first and clamp the shank as short as possible so that the bit does not run out.
For the modeler who works with larger diameters and wants a particular size at hand without buying a whole set.
Sharp tip, keep out of the reach of children. When working with a drill, protect your eyes and do not have loose sleeves or long hair untied.
