The chocolate-dark brown Lifecolor Rotbraun Schokoladenbraun Matt RAL 8017 stands on a model for the oldest stage of rust: dried, almost black-brown corrosion settled in the joints and under lifted paint.
Responsibility details are not available.
Rust that has sat on metal for years is not orange. It darkens, thickens and settles into a deep brown with a cast toward violet, and it is exactly this end of the aging scale that the matte shade Rotbraun Schokoladenbraun with the number RAL 8017 in its designation covers. On a model it suits everywhere corrosion is not a fresh wound but a long-settled state.
The proven sequence runs from dark to light. Lay this shade down as the lowest layer of the corrosion, let it dry and only then stipple lighter rust tones over it, with a stiff tip of the brush or with a piece of sponge. The lighter layer must never cover the dark one entirely; its outline and shadow should stay visible, otherwise the rust looks flat. The matte surface of the shade helps here, because it adds no gloss where the metal is meant to be dead and soaked.
It will be reached for by modelers who build vehicles at an advanced stage of wear: wrecks, long-parked machines, industrial dioramas and everything meant to look older than a single season. It also serves well as a dark base under the lighter rust shades of the same line.
Keep out of the reach of children, close the container carefully after use and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging.
