The faded olive tone a vehicle has after a season in the sun is offered by the shade Olive Drab 3412 Faded, a water-based acrylic paint from Lifecolor.
Responsibility details are not available.
The olive color of Allied vehicles did not stay at its factory tone for long. Sun, rain and dust shifted it within a few months into a lighter and grayer position, and it is exactly this state that the shade Olive Drab 3412 Faded captures. It is a water-based acrylic paint for modeling use.
Fading as part of the scheme
This is where the American school differs most from the British. The British built the articulation of a surface on a second color in the camouflage drawing. American vehicles, by contrast, ran in one overall tone, so all the visual depth on them arises from the difference between fresh and burnt-out paint. The modeler handles that with two shades of the same olive: the darker one in the shadows and sheltered places and the lighter faded one on the horizontal surfaces that get the most sun. The hull roof, the upper armor, the mudguards and the lids of stowage boxes fade first.
For modelers of Allied vehicles who work with modulation and want the faded tone ready rather than mixing it with a light color and risking a shift toward a neutral gray.
Stir the contents properly before use. Keep out of the reach of children.
