A submarine hull does not have the tone of an ordinary surface ship, and Submarine Dark Grey respects that: a water-based acrylic paint in a dark neutral gray for submarine models.
Responsibility details are not available.
A submarine is painted differently from a surface ship. There is no need to break it up into camouflage fields or to distinguish the decks markedly from the sides; what decides is a uniform dark hull that merges with the water and cannot easily be spotted from above. Submarine Dark Grey is a water-based acrylic paint for precisely this task: a dark, neutral gray without a color shift toward blue or toward brown.
Why a uniform area needs care
A large smooth hull is the most demanding discipline for a modeler, because there is nothing on it to draw attention away. It pays to apply the paint in thin coats and then to play the area out with fine grading and streaks; otherwise the hull looks like a painted pipe. A dark gray is rewarding for such work, because it will stand lightening and darkening alike without collapsing into a different shade. In larger scales it moreover pays to watch the direction from which light falls on the hull and to subordinate the whole grading to it.
The shade is intended for modelers of submarines and for everyone who needs a neutral dark gray without a blue or brown undertone. It will also serve as a supplementary tone with surface ships, where a dark contrast against a lighter hull gray is needed.
