Engine blocks, gearboxes and cast iron covers need a tone that acts like metal but does not sparkle like a metallic paint. The acrylic shade Lifecolor Piston Engine Block is aimed at exactly this task.
Responsibility details are not available.
A shade from the Lifecolor acrylic range whose name gives away its purpose right away: the surface of the block of a piston engine. It is a tone for cast and machined metal parts, which in scale never look mirror-like. A crankcase, a gearbox, a clutch cover or a pump body have in reality a more matte surface dulled by oil and dust, and such an impression is created on a model above all by color, not by gloss.
Metal on a model is made not by a metallic pigment but by the difference between a surface and an edge. Lay the base coat down evenly, then lighten the tone on the crests of the cooling fins and on the edges of covers, where the material would be rubbed in service. Into the recesses between the fins, on the other hand, belongs a darker tone and a trace of oil running down from the joint face.
Only at the very end do a few small glossy points make sense: bolt heads, a connecting rod, the end of a shaft. Glossy places on a small area read as metal far more convincingly than a whole surface sprayed with a metallic paint.
For modelers who build subjects with an exposed engine, and for builders of dioramas with machinery. It will find use in workshop scenes too, where an engine is the main object and the viewer looks at it from close up.
Work in a ventilated area, close the container carefully after use and keep it out of the reach of children.
