The acrylic shade Lifecolor Rail Frame Dirt is aimed at the frames and undersides of railroad vehicles: the brown-gray dirt that settles under a car from the track.
Responsibility details are not available.
The underframe of a car never gets dirty the same way its sides do. From below, a mixture of dust from the track, oil traces and brake wear settles on the metal, and in service it darkens into a peculiar brown-gray tone. It is precisely this position that the acrylic paint Lifecolor Rail Frame Dirt stands for.
The shade works most naturally in layers. A continuous area of a single color looks flat, so it pays to spread the tone over the whole frame first and then to interrupt it locally, with lighter dust on the horizontal edges above and a darker greasy trace around the bearings. A dry brush can accentuate the riveting and the edges, while a thin glaze will, on the contrary, unify the transition between the underframe and the car body.
It is aimed above all at model railroading, where a weathered underside of a car decides whether a train looks like something in service or like a toy fresh from the box. The same brand has further shades following on from it for rails, ties, car roofs and brake dust, so a whole palette for one layout can be built up. It will also find use on dioramas with an industrial siding or a factory site.
Store out of the reach of children, ventilate while working and close the bottle well after use.
