UA914 - Red mud from Lifecolor

A Lifecolor acrylic paint in a reddish mud shade. It is neither an opaque camouflage shade nor a metallic paint, but an earth tone intended for finishing a surface, that is for rendering deposits, dusting and soiling. Reddish soil appears in a whole range of environments and on a model it immediately gives away where the vehicle has been driving.

What the color is for

Earth tones are not used on a model as a surface, but as an extra layer. They are applied over the finished color of the chassis, the treads, the fenders and the lower sections of the bed, where mud deposits build up the most. It pays off to work in layers and with reduced saturation: wear looks believable when it has several shades and transitions, not when the whole underside of the model is one color. The shade combines well with other earth tones of the same range.

How to work with the paint

• Stir the contents of the bottle before use and during work, the pigment settles to the bottom.
• Apply in thin layers and build the saturation gradually, one heavy coat covers the relief.
• Combine techniques rather than using only one: a brushed coat, stippling and spraying each give a different texture.
• An earth shade works best against a clean camouflage color, so leave some surfaces untouched.
• It suits chassis, treads, fenders, the undersides of beds and also diorama bases and terrain.
