Six shades for the Russian carrier fighter in the form it has carried since 2006, including the color of the radomes, the insides of the bays and the wheel rims.
Responsibility details are not available.
The heavy carrier fighter derived from the well-known family differs from its land-based siblings in its folding wings, strengthened landing gear and tailhook. Its more recent coloring rests on three blue-gray tones that blend into one another on the fuselage and from a distance merge with the surface of the sea.
The three close blue-gray tones are best applied wet into wet with the boundaries between them blurred, as otherwise the scheme comes across like a sticker. It pays to start with the middle tone, add the dark one on the spine and finally lighten the large panels with the faded one. The white radomes are painted last and masked with a soft tape, because their shape follows the curve of the fuselage.
The red tone of the insides of the bays tends to be markedly more saturated in photographs than it looks once applied, so it is worth darkening it slightly with a wash after it has dried.
Carrier machines suffer from salt and from operating in a confined area more than a land-based squadron, so rubbed leading edges, dented panels around the hook and dirty undersides belong to the picture. The colors from this group of six form the base on which you then work with washes and with pigments. The set contains the paints only; there is no model, decals or masking material in it.
