A kit of the American F-14D Tomcat carrier fighter in the caricature egg rendition, in the colors of squadron VF-2. A big head, a short fuselage, a recognizable Tomcat.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-14 Tomcat was a two-seat carrier fighter of the US Navy, and its mark of recognition remains the variable-geometry wing: spread out wide for takeoff and landing, swept back toward the fuselage in fast flight. The D version is the last and most capable form of the machine. Squadron VF-2, known by the nickname Bounty Hunters, belonged to the units that flew Tomcats in this version from the deck of an aircraft carrier.
Egg models are deliberate caricatures. The fuselage is shortened almost to a shell, the cockpit and the nose are enlarged and the wings and the tail surfaces stay in the recognizable shape of the subject. The result is a kit with no scale that you will build in an evening and that will hold its own in a display case beside seriously meant models as a lighter note.
Separate the parts with nippers a little way from the part and sand the rest off, then wash them and degrease them before painting. Keep the division of the colors exactly according to the subject, because it is the contrast between a serious camouflage and a playful shape that makes these models fun. Keep the transitions between the gray shades soft and place the unit markings on the vertical tail surfaces, where they are best seen. Spare yourself the accentuating of the panel lines on so small an area; the model would lose its cleanness.
For modelers who want a restful build between more demanding projects, and as a gift for a beginner as well. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
