The second volume of the palette for the US aggressor squadrons. Six shades cover the blue-gray and winter schemes of the aircraft that play the adversary in training combat.
Responsibility details are not available.
A training adversary has to be recognizable in the air. US aggressor squadrons therefore get finishes that have nothing to do with combat camouflage: they imitate foreign equipment, or they deliberately alter the perceived shape of the airframe. This second volume of the palette gathers shades from several such schemes at once.
Three named schemes that aggressor units routinely work with are represented. The winter pattern is built on a very light gray-white complemented by a medium gray. The blue scheme imitating Eastern aircraft combines a strong saturated blue with a light blue-gray that is also used on the undersides. The digital pattern adds another gray tone and a radome shade that also appears on the leading edges.
Builders of light and heavy US fighters from the 18th, 64th and 65th squadrons. These aircraft are rewarding precisely because versions that differ only in color exist side by side, so one and the same type can be built several times and look different every time.
The paints are acrylic, they thin with water and they suit both airbrushing and brush painting. Six shades let you put a whole scheme together without mixing, which on multicolor patterns with distinct edges decides the result more than the application technique does.
Patterns with hard transitions live and die by the masking. Once the tape is down, press it along the edge with a toothpick so that paint cannot creep underneath, and apply the next shade only after the previous one has dried completely. Light tones cover less well, so it pays to start with them and add the darker ones later.
The volume number is in the name, so a separate first volume with a different selection goes alongside this set.
