USMC Sand

The sand shade USMC Sand

The modeling paint USMC Sand comes from the Hataka Orange Line range and is carried under the part number HTK-C060. The name refers to a sand tone from the range of colors of the United States Marine Corps, that is, to the shade that stands in on a model for desert and semi-desert surroundings.

Where the color is used

A light sand paint is rewarding precisely because on a model it never stays flat. Over a large area it is always brought to life by dust, by fading in the sun and by wear from the crew, so it works well in layers: under edges picked out by drybrushing, over a darker tone drawn into the seams and the transitions. It comes into its own on vehicles, on equipment and as a light base on which the deposit of dust on the underside of a vehicle then stands out.

Thinning and application

• Stir the paint thoroughly before use, at rest the pigment settles at the bottom of the bottle.
• The thinner intended for this range and the thinning ratio are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
• Apply several thin coats rather than one heavy one, so that the detail stays readable.
• A base coat unifies the absorbency of the substrate, on which a light tone otherwise reads unevenly.
• Wipe the rim of the bottle after work and close it carefully, otherwise the cap will not seat next time.

What the delivery contains

The paint alone is supplied in a bottle. Thinner, brushes and other aids are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
