A sheet of waterslide decals from the Japanese manufacturer Bandai. The designation Multiuse in the name means that this is a universal set not tied to a single model: the designs can be arranged at your own discretion on several different kits. It is not a kit or a plastic accessory but decals in their own right, used to finish the surface of a completed model.
Waterslide decals need a smooth, glossy base. On matte paint, air gets trapped under the carrier film and a matte frame appears around the design, known as silvering. The procedure is therefore always the same: spray the spot with gloss varnish, cut the decal out as close to the design as possible, soak it for a few seconds in lukewarm water and let it rest until the film comes loose from the paper. Then slide it onto the model and adjust the position with a soft brush.
Softeners. On an intricate surface it pays to use a setting solution first, which draws the decal onto the base, and only then a stronger softener, which softens the film so that it pulls down into the engraved lines and over rivets. Once the softener is on, do not move the decal until it has dried; it tears easily. Finally, blot away the excess water and seal the whole area with varnish of the surface you want: matte, satin or gloss. That makes the decal disappear into the surface and stop looking stuck on.
