The Welders and Accessories set belongs to the line of scenic accessories of the American brand Woodland Scenics for HO scale (1:87). It holds figures of welders at work complemented by working equipment, the small accessories that create a believable workplace around the figures. The figures are modeled in detail and hand-painted, they are supplied finished and are only set in place.
Welding is one of the few activities that can be told on a scene at first glance, by the stance with the visor lowered and by the equipment laid out around. The set therefore belongs where repairs are done: in a locomotive depot, in a workshop, by a bridge structure under repair, on a trackside construction site or in an industrial area by a siding. The accessories also allow the scene to be put together beyond the reach of the figures themselves and so to extend the area that looks inhabited.
Set the figures so that their gaze and their tools point to one point of work, because that is what makes a scene legible. Place the equipment around them irregularly, as it stays lying during work. Glue the figures with a spot drop of cyanoacrylate glue. The effect of welding can be suggested with a small dot of light paint at the torch, but handle that with restraint. Matte varnish evens out the gloss and dark pigment on the work clothing dirties the figures believably. Shades may differ slightly between production runs.
The figures are supplied finished and hand-painted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
