A thin flexible wire 0.38 millimeters in diameter, supplied in a length of one meter. The purple version is part of a color range from which the modeler puts together the wiring according to which circuits are to be told apart on the model. The material is soft enough to be bent with fingers and tweezers, and springy enough to hold its shape without further support.
Most often as the plumbing in the engine bay of car and motorcycle models: ignition leads, looms under the hood, lines to the instruments. The color is not only cosmetic here, because when every circuit gets its own shade the engine looks at once like a real machine and not like a block of plastic. It also finds use on dioramas, science fiction builds and mock-ups, where it stands for cables to equipment, control lines or optics.
Trim the end with a new cutter blade so that it is not squashed into an oval. Drill a hole in the part slightly wider than the wire and glue the end into it with a drop of gel cyanoacrylate applied on the tip of a toothpick. Run the line in a curve with a slight sag; a taut straight line gives the artificiality away at first glance. If you do not want to glue it permanently, a small photo-etched clip or a strip of foil helps.
