Three lacquer paints for German floatplanes and flying boats. It contains the light blue-gray for the undersides and both green components of the split camouflage on the upper surfaces.
Responsibility details are not available.
The floatplanes and flying boats of the Luftwaffe differed in color from the land-based types. The catapult-launched Arado Ar 196 from the decks of battleships, the Blohm und Voss Bv 138 patrol flying boats and the Heinkel He 115 torpedo aircraft carried a dark pair of green tones on their upper surfaces and a light blue-gray underneath, because they operated over water rather than over fields or forests.
The three bottles match exactly this key:
The paints come from a lacquer range whose binder is solvent-based; they are thinned with the maker's own thinner, or with denatured alcohol. The shades are mixed according to surviving period color charts and dry to a smooth matte with no grain, which on the large hulls of flying boats decides the overall impression.
Each bottle holds 17 ml, enough even for a large model in 1:32 scale. The material comes out of the bottle ready for an airbrush as it is. It pays to even the surface out with a base coat, because the two greens lie close to each other and on plastic that absorbs unevenly the balance between them would shift.
Weathering belongs to a convincing result as well. Machines operating over salt water had their upper surfaces scoured by spray and bleached gray by the sun, so lightening the centers of the panels slightly with a lighter tone looks more convincing on a model than an even coat.
