British Railways Set 2 - Mid period (1960-1970)

A themed set of modeling paints from the Italian brand Lifecolor, defined in the name by the period from 1960 to 1970. It is the second set of a three-part series that divides the British railways by era. What it contains is painting material, and the shades are chosen so that they go together and match the look of the vehicles and installations of that decade.

The period in question

The 1960s were a time of great rebuilding on the British railways. The modernization program was replacing steam operation with diesel and electric traction, branch lines were being closed, and with all of it came a change in the visual identity of the undertaking, which turned the unsettledness of the preceding years into a uniform corporate look. For a modeler it is the most rewarding era precisely because machines of an ending age and vehicles in the new finish legitimately stand side by side in one scene.

Usage tips

• Stir the bottle thoroughly before every use, otherwise settled pigment will shift the resulting shade.
• Apply in thin layers, the large smooth sides of vehicles will not forgive a heavy layer.
• Try the shade out on a spare piece of plastic, the tone usually changes slightly once dry.
• A working vehicle of that time was dusty and dirtied, a cleanly painted model looks incomplete.
• Choose the thinner and the cleaner according to the instructions of the maker of the paint, not according to habits from another line.
