About product

The Lifecolor paint set British Railways Set 3 - the late period, 1970 to 1990

A themed set of modeling paints of the brand Lifecolor, put together for one defined stretch of the history of the British railways. The span of years is given directly in the name and says which era of finishes the selection of shades relates to. It is the third volume of the British railway series, which at the same maker is preceded by sets for the earlier periods.

What the chosen period corresponds to

The 1970s to the 1990s are the time on the British rails when the earlier variety of finishes of the first postwar decades settled into a uniform corporate look, and only toward the end of the period did it begin to divide again according to the individual operating units. Anyone building a vehicle from precisely these years needs different tones than for a subject from the 1950s, and the aim of the set is adjusted to exactly that. The shades from one package moreover hold a common character, so they can be mixed with one another for transitions and graduation.

Use and tips

  • Stir the bottles thoroughly before work, the pigment settles to the bottom.
  • Apply several thin layers rather than one heavy one.
  • Handle thinning, cleaning and the recommended base according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging.
  • Combine the shades from one set with one another, the model then holds a uniform tone.
  • Let the base layer dry out well and only then deal with the shadows and the transitions.

Who the set is for

The set suits railroad modelers who want the paints for a given period together instead of chasing them bottle by bottle. You will appreciate it in building a diorama with period scenery too, where a vehicle is meant to match its surroundings.

Store the paints well closed and out of the reach of children and work in a well-ventilated room.

FAQ

The subject of the set and its order in the series follow from the name. The exact composition, that is the individual shades and their number, is stated on the box of the product and cannot be derived from the name.

No. The number after the word Set is an ordinal marking of the volume within the subject of the British railways, not a statement of how many bottles are in the package.

Keep to the manufacturer's instructions printed on the packaging and use the thinner that it recommends for this line. An unverified thinner can curdle the paint or spoil the surface of the coat.

Yes. The shades are not tied to one subject only. The theme says what the selection is put together for, but you will use the paints anywhere they suit you.
