A kit of the French heavy tank Char B1 bis in 1:100 scale. It is one of the best-known subjects of the French interwar school of design, and in a small scale a rewarding model for a collection and for the gaming table alike. In the same line the maker runs a wide range of French equipment, and of this very tank also a pack of three for building a whole platoon.
The Char B1 bis was a French heavy tank of the second half of the 1930s with an unusual arrangement of armament. In the hull it carried a short large-caliber gun for destroying fortifications and firing positions, and in a one-man rotating turret an antiarmor gun of smaller caliber. Its thick armor placed it among the best protected vehicles of its day in 1940. Its practical weaknesses were complicated and costly production, a short range and the overloading of the commander, who in the turret aimed, loaded and commanded the crew all at once.
Assemble and paint the running gear with the tracks and the side covers before you close the hull. Cut the parts off with a sharp scalpel leaving a margin and clean them up only once they are off the sprue. For injection-molded plastic use thin modeling cement; with resin parts wash them free of release agent first and glue them with cyanoacrylate. Lay the base on thinly so that the fine detail is not lost. The characteristic French multicolor camouflage with its hard edges is best drawn in this scale with a fine brush, or suggested with a soft transition through an airbrush. Keep the weathering restrained; a thin wash into the recesses and a light emphasis of the edges are enough.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
