A kit of the Soviet experimental KV-220 heavy tank in the small 1:100 scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. In military modeling 1:100 is the domain of collector miniatures and tabletop games: the finished tank fits in the palm of your hand, so a dozen of them will happily stand side by side on a shelf.
The KV-220 was a development machine derived from the KV heavy tank. Against the production version it had a lengthened hull with an extra road wheel, a markedly larger turret and a gun of greater caliber. It never got beyond prototype standard and was never built in series. For a collector it is interesting precisely because it is a development dead end that you will not often come across as a kit.
In 1:100 scale all the parts are tiny, so work over a surface with a raised edge and dose the glue with the tip of a toothpick rather than straight from the bottle. Separate the barrel and the small accessories with a sharp scalpel, not with cutters. A brush and an airbrush will both handle the painting, but watch the thickness of the coat: a heavy coat of paint will fill the engraved detail at this scale. A thin coat of base color, a dark wash into the recesses and fine dry-brushing of the edges works well, and in a small scale that does most of the visual work. For weathering, a discreet amount of dust on the running gear is enough; overdone mud effects tend to swamp a small model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
