About product

SU-76M in 1:100 scale (Zebranomodel)

A resin kit for experienced modelers in 1:100 scale. The small scale is at home both in collections of whole units and in tabletop wargames, where the hardware is handled and a solid, one-piece casting is needed. The model consists of cast parts that have to be cut off the casting blocks and glued together; it contains few parts, but the reward is a quick build and the chance to stand a larger number of vehicles side by side.

The real subject

The SU-76M was a light Soviet self-propelled gun of the Second World War. It came about by fitting a divisional gun of 76.2 mm caliber into an open fighting compartment on the lengthened chassis of a light tank. The open superstructure simplified production and the serving of the gun, but at the same time left the crew vulnerable. The vehicle was intended above all for the direct support of infantry and for destroying fortified firing positions; it was produced in large numbers and was among the most widespread Soviet self-propelled hardware of the time.

Building and painting tips

First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue from the surface — otherwise neither primer nor paint will hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife, not with nippers, which break resin away. Glue with cyanoacrylate, because ordinary polystyrene cement has no effect on resin. Protect your airways when sanding; resin dust must not be inhaled. In a small scale the key to a good look is a fine modulation of the base color and a light wash into the shadows — heavy weathering would swamp such a small model.

Who the model is for

  • Modelers who collect hardware in small scales
  • Tabletop wargamers looking for quality castings
  • Builders of group display cases and of whole units
  • More experienced modelers used to working with resin

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a resin kit. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Cyanoacrylate. Ordinary cement for plastic models does not dissolve resin and therefore does not hold.

Yes. Castings tend to carry mold release residue, which stops primer and paint from adhering. Lukewarm soapy water and a soft brush are enough.

Yes, the 1:100 scale is common for board and tabletop wargames, and a one-piece resin casting stands up to handling well.

Rather not. Resin calls for a different procedure than plastic — cutting off casting blocks, washing the parts and gluing with cyanoacrylate.
