The Voroshilovets was a Soviet tracked tractor built for the heaviest tasks. It was used to tow heavy artillery and to recover and tow damaged armored vehicles, work that lighter tractors could not handle. Its design drew on components of heavy tracked vehicles and it was powered by a diesel engine, which gave it drawbar pull at the limit of what was then possible. Characteristic features are the enclosed cab with a bed for the crew and equipment and the long tracked running gear. Vehicles of this type are a rewarding addition to artillery and rear-area scenes, where they give the whole the right sense of size.
In small scales clean work decides everything. Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel or fine cutters and file the flash down with a fine-toothed file, because in this scale every remnant of a sprue gate shows. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, then lay down a thin primer, ideally with an airbrush. It helps to lighten the base shade on the upper surfaces and darken it in the recesses, because shading has to make up for the fine detail that is missing. A wash in the engraved lines and dry-brushing on the edges do the rest; go easy with pigments and mud, as in miniature they quickly look coarse.
