About product

T-S 53 Na vyhledech 1:1000 — model of an object of the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications (ROP o.s.)

A model of the infantry blockhouse T-S 53 with the code name Na vyhledech, meaning at the viewpoints, in 1:1000 scale from the Czech association ROP o.s., which has long devoted itself to models of the Czechoslovak fortifications. For modeling practice 1:1000 is an unusually small scale and it has its point: the object fits in the palm of your hand, so a collector can gradually put a whole row of neighboring blockhouses side by side and get an idea of the spacing and the density of the line.

The real subject

The designation of the objects of the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications follows a firm logic. The letter abbreviation before the S determines the construction sector — T stands for the Trutnov sector — the S itself is the abbreviation for a blockhouse and the number gives the order of the object within the sector. Each object also had a code name, on this blockhouse Na vyhledech. The blockhouses were built from the mid-1930s under the Directorate of Fortification Works as reinforced concrete objects partly sunk into the terrain. The embrasures pointed sideways along the line, so that neighboring objects covered one another. After the Munich Agreement in the autumn of 1938 most of the fortifications were abandoned without a fight; a number of the objects still stand in the landscape today.

Assembly and painting tips

At this scale work with tweezers and a sharp scalpel, not with your fingers. Degrease the model, spray it with a thin undercoat and build the concrete up rather in a lighter gray-beige tone — dark concrete blends into a featureless mass at a small scale. A dark wash drawn into the embrasures and the joints works well, together with a fine dry brush in a lighter shade on the edges. Handle the greenery with fine static grass or ground foam; any coarser material would give the scale away at once.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of the Czechoslovak fortifications and their history
  • Modelers who want to assemble a whole sector of the line step by step
  • Anyone interested in small models for a display case with little depth
  • Walkers and researchers who know the objects from the ground

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The letter before the S determines the construction sector — T refers to the Trutnov sector. The S itself is the abbreviation for a blockhouse and the number gives the order of the object within the sector. The code name Na vyhledech then sets the object apart in words.

A scale of 1:1000 means that an object twenty meters long is two centimeters on the model — so reckon with a very small piece.

Please go by the photograph and the manufacturer's details, which describe the finish as well as the contents of the package.

In 1:1000 scale what arises is a slice of landscape rather than a diorama. A small base with grass, a track and a suggested earth bank works best, or several neighboring objects side by side.
