A set of decals in 1:144 scale for a model of the single-engine Antonov An-2 biplane in the configuration carrying the name Kubus. It is not a kit but an accessory — you mark a finished and painted model with the sheet of decals. The base kit is obtained separately. The machine's own name on the fuselage is exactly the detail that makes it worth reaching for a separate sheet instead of the decals from the box.
The An-2 is a single-engine biplane of Soviet design from the late 1940s, also produced in series in Poland, at Mielec. The combination of a large lifting area, high-lift devices and a powerful radial engine gave it an exceptionally short takeoff and landing and the ability to operate from grass strips. The machine served in transport, agriculture, with parachutists and in training, and a number of examples still fly today; it is precisely on these airplanes that personal names and non-standard finishes appear. In 1:144 scale an An-2 model comes out small and the result is decided by the sharpness of the decal printing.
Apply the decals onto a glossy surface. Flat varnish has a broken structure in which air stays under the film and silvering appears. The sequence: gloss varnish, decal, softener, thorough drying and finally a flat or semi-gloss varnish over the whole model. Cut the sheet as close to the printing as you can, soak it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it stand on a towel until the film runs freely. Carry it together with its backing paper and slide it off only once it is in place. On a biplane, work in an order that leaves you access — apply the markings on the fuselage and on the lower surfaces before you glue the interplane struts.
The set holds decals, not a model. The kit, paints and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
