Brengun 1:144 Bell X-1 is a photo-etched detail set for a plastic kit of the experimental rocket plane, not the model itself. Target kit: Dragon.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory from the Czech maker Brengun, intended for the Dragon plastic Bell X-1 model. It is not a kit: the box holds a fret of photo-etched metal parts that replace and add detail on the plastic model.
The Bell X-1 was an American experimental aircraft with a rocket engine, designed for research into flight around the speed of sound. It was launched slung under a mother bomber, and in 1947 it made the first supersonic flight in level attitude. The fuselage with its sharply tapered tail and the short, thin wings make the X-1 a very small model on which every detail counts.
It is on a machine this small and this clean in shape that a photo-etched accessory is rewarding. The model has nowhere to hide inaccuracies and the main areas on view are the cockpit and the smooth fuselage. Photo-etched parts supply the thin features that in injected plastic would come out as suggested relief. Expect the glossy finish of the subject to be demanding in preparation, though: the base has to be perfectly sanded, because gloss accentuates every scratch. Spray thin coats, let the paint cure properly between them and tune the shine with a final varnish rather than a heavier coat of paint.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, which it does not include. The parts are supplied unpainted; glue, paints and the model itself are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
