A resin detail set that replaces the fixed molded trailing edge of the wing of a plastic kit with extended landing flaps. This is neither a model of the aircraft nor a part of one that can be built on its own; it is an accessory intended for installation into a finished B-29 kit in 1:144 scale.
The B-29 was a four-engine all-metal aircraft with a pressurized cabin and, for its time, an exceptionally high wing loading. That is precisely why it was given large-area Fowler type flaps: as they extend, they first move aft along tracks and only then tilt down, so they increase not only the camber of the airfoil but the area of the wing itself. On this type the difference between the cruise and the landing configuration is visually very pronounced and it is one of the details that most brings a model standing on the ground to life.
First wash the parts in warm water with detergent so that the residue of the mold release agent disappears, otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and sand the surface down; when sanding resin, protect your airways and work wet. The trailing edge of the wing of the kit has to be cut out. Proceed in small steps and keep dry-fitting until the flap seats without pressure. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, as ordinary plastic cement has no effect on resin. Before painting, go over the joint with primer, which will reveal both engraved steps and insufficiently sanded places. The insides of the flap wells and the lower surfaces of the flaps are usually painted differently from the skin, so paint them before you glue the set in for good.
The set is supplied as a resin accessory, unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
