An aftermarket set of photo-etched metal parts for refining the external details of a plastic model of the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar wide-body airliner in 1:144 scale. The model of the airplane, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.
The Lockheed L-1011 TriStar is a wide-body airliner with three jet engines. Two are slung under the wing, the third is built into the rear of the fuselage and air is led to it through a curved duct below the root of the vertical tail. The aircraft came into being at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s as a rival to similarly conceived wide-body machines and flew with carriers on long-haul routes.
Photo-etched metal replaces thin sheet-metal elements that injection-molded plastic cannot produce at a corresponding thickness, and adds fine external details to the airframe. In the small 1:144 scale it is exactly the thickness and the crispness of the edges that sets a nicely built model apart from an average one. The set is therefore focused on the external surface details and on small add-ons.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a firm surface, not by twisting, otherwise they deform. Make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool. Glue with a minimal amount of cyanoacrylate glue. Before painting, degrease the metal and apply a base for metal. With airliners one often works with a glossy white and with metal surfaces, and both reveal every unevenness, so smooth the surface carefully before applying the paint.
The set is an accessory for a model, not a standalone kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
