The 1:48 USAF A-10C Thunderbolt II attack aircraft in the markings of the Flying Tigers squadron is a plastic kit from the South Korean brand Academy.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded kit captures the upgraded form of the American attack aircraft as carried by the 75th Fighter Squadron nicknamed the Flying Tigers. The chosen scale allows the cockpit and the external stores to be worked out in detail, and the finished model has a respectable span.
The Thunderbolt II was created in the 1970s purely for close support of ground units. An armored bathtub surrounds the pilot's compartment, two turbofan engines sit high above the rear fuselage out of the reach of shrapnel and the whole structure is built to come home with serious damage. The axis of the airframe is a large-caliber rotary cannon, around which the aircraft was literally built. The letter C marks the upgrade with digital cockpit equipment and the ability to deliver precision guided munitions, thanks to which the machine remained in service long after the end of the Cold War.
The grayish two-tone camouflage is sprayed with soft transitions at low pressure. The rear end takes the most work: the smoke streaks behind the engines and the area around the cannon muzzle are usually handled with dark filters and fine pigment. Prepare and paint the external stores separately and hang them only at the end, so that they are not in the way while you handle the fuselage.
The item is sold as a set of parts to be assembled; paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
