This turned metal pitot tip is intended as a more accurate replacement for the plastic part in the kit of the American Republic F-105 Thunderchief fighter-bomber in 1:144 scale. The part is precisely machined on a lathe, so it faithfully follows the slender shape of the real pitot tube on the nose of the aircraft.
The metal version is markedly tougher than a thin plastic molding. There is no risk of bending or breaking off while the finished model is handled, and the fine detail stays intact. Fitting consists of cutting off the original part and gluing the metal replacement in place, ideally with cyanoacrylate.
