A detail accessory in 1:24 scale from the Polish brand Yamamoto Model Parts. It is a large GT type rear downforce wing with uprights, of the kind circuit and drift cars carry. It is not a kit of a car but a free-standing part meant to be mounted on the trunk lid of a model that is already being built. The brand makes two numbered variants in this line and this is the first of them.
A rear wing is the most striking change that can be made to the silhouette of a car. It alters the proportions of the rear end and decides whether we read a model as a street car or as a circuit special. That is exactly why it pays to give attention to seating it, as a badly mounted wing spoils the impression of a whole model more than a detail that did not come off in the engine bay.
The blade of the wing is a long smooth surface with no breaks in it, so every pore and every mark left by sanding will show on it. Work through a filler primer therefore, sanded over with very fine paper wet once it has dried, and spray the color only then. If the wing is to blend with the car, paint it in one go together with the body, because even the same color from two different sprayings has a different shade and gloss. A paper template helps with the installation: lay a strip of paper with the points for both uprights marked on it on the trunk lid, and that will keep it symmetrical. Better to pre-drill the holes for the pins, as the joint then holds far better than on the seating surface alone. Before the glue dries, look at the model from behind at eye level and check that the wing is horizontal and both uprights the same height, because a tilted wing is precisely the kind of defect everyone notices at first glance.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a kit of the vehicle. Glue, paints and further parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
