A detail accessory in 1:24 scale from the Polish brand Yamamoto Model Parts. The rear wing, in the form carried by the cars of the Japanese street and circuit scene, is mounted on the trunk lid of a car model. It is a free-standing part, not a kit of a car, and the brand makes it alongside further types of wings in the same line.
The abbreviation JDM denotes cars and modifications for the Japanese home market and the style of building that goes with them, where every visible element has a clear origin. The wing is the most striking item in that composition and is often deliberately done in a different color from the body, so that the viewer reads it as an added component and not as factory equipment.
Contrasting paint is precisely the more interesting route with this part than blending with the car. Choose the color so that it makes a deliberate pair with the body and not an accidental clash: a dark car will take a light or signal-colored wing, a light car the other way round a black or carbon one. If you want the blade of the wing and the uprights to differ, mask the transition with tape stuck onto a first color that has already dried and press the edge down with a fingernail, or the second color will creep under it. Spray thinly and at right angles to the edge, so that no ridge of paint forms at the edges, which would then shine differently from the surface. Deal with the mounting only after painting: first sand the seating surfaces of the uprights down to the bare surface, and glue only then, because super glue does not hold on paint. The last check belongs to the gap between the blade of the wing and the trunk lid, which has to be the same on the left and on the right. A difference of a few tenths of a millimeter is clearly visible on a model held in the hand and gives away that the part was added afterward.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a kit of the vehicle. Glue, paints and further parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
