About product

Nissan Skyline GT-R of the BNR32 generation, the early 1989 form, in 1:24

An injection-molded plastic kit of the production Skyline GT-R of the BNR32 generation in its early form, that is as it was in the first year of production. The model comes from the Japanese maker Hasegawa, which has this generation covered in several boxings distinguished by production year and equipment. The contents of the package, the number of parts and the extent of the decal sheet are stated on the box.

The real subject

The Skyline GT-R of the BNR32 generation was presented in 1989 and for the GT-R name it meant a return after a longer break. Its powerplant was a 2.6 liter inline-six with twin turbochargers, and the power went through an electronically controlled all-wheel drive system that under normal circumstances drove the rear axle and brought the front one in as needed. Four-wheel steering and a heavily stiffened body completed the car. On the circuits it dominated domestic and overseas Group A touring car racing so convincingly that it earned the nickname still used today. The early form from the first production wave differs from the later ones in small items of equipment and detail, which collectors distinguish carefully.

Building and painting tips

The body has prominent fenders and sharp edges, which benefit from a smooth finish in thin coats; with the typical silver and gray shades a metallic paint followed by a gloss varnish pays off. Do the window frames and trim in semi-matte black precisely, as any inaccuracy by hand shows very clearly here. Leave the interior matte and set the upholstery apart from the plastics. The wheel rims take a polishable metallic paint, and the brake discs can be suggested with a steel shade with a hint of oxidation. If you are building the car for a display case as a production example, avoid weathering, as these cars look better in clean condition.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Japanese sports cars of the 1990s.
  • Modelers who put together a series of Skyline GT-R generations.
  • Anyone interested in all-wheel drive engineering and turbocharged sixes.
  • Builders who want to practice a metallic finish.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
