A small detail part in 1:24 scale from the Polish brand Yamamoto Model Parts. It completes the interior of a model of a racing or tuned car with a fire extinguisher of the kind such cars carry fastened by a seat, on the floor on the passenger side or in the space behind the seats. It is not a kit of a vehicle but a free-standing accessory for a modeler who builds a cabin beyond what the box holds.
Interiors of car models tend to be dealt with sparingly out of the box, and it is precisely small things like a fire extinguisher, a roll cage or belts that give a cabin its credibility. The extinguisher is a color accent on top of that: a rich red cylinder in an otherwise dark interior draws the eye to places the viewer would not otherwise look, and gives the car a clear message that it is a car with a sporting purpose.
Wash the part in lukewarm water with dish soap and let it dry completely, and spray only then. Rich reds and oranges are colors with little covering power, so lay a white base coat over the primer, or the shade will look dirty and dull. Finish the cylinder with a gloss or semi-gloss varnish, and the head and the lever, the other way round, in a matte steel or brass color, so that a contrast of two materials arises. The transition to the rest of the model is made by washing: a dark pooling in the groove between the cylinder and the head separates the parts visually and the extinguisher stops looking like a single piece of paint. Glue it only once the interior is finished, with a drop of super glue or of glue for clear parts, so that no white film is left on the upholstery around it. If the extinguisher sits in a visible place, it pays to paint it separately on a wooden skewer and set it in with tweezers.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a kit of the vehicle. Glue, paints and further parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
