About product

Toyota Corona ST191 — Suzuka 500 km 1994 in 1:24 scale (Nunu Models)

This is an injection-molded plastic kit of a circuit touring car in 1:24 scale from the Nunu Models brand. The package matches the form of the car from the endurance race at the Suzuka circuit in 1994, as the manufacturer designates it. The kit is intended to be cemented and sprayed, and the finished model suits a display case among the other Japanese circuit specials of the 1990s. The particular number of parts, the extent of the decal schemes and whether the package holds photo-etched parts, masks or resin accessories are stated on the box and in the enclosed instructions.

The real subject

The Corona ST191 was the competition version of the production Toyota Corona, adapted for the Japanese touring car championship in the mid-1990s. At the time the category was built on two-liter naturally aspirated engines, production-derived bodies and a driven front axle, so the cars looked civilian from the outside, but technically they were full-blooded circuit specials with a cage, racing suspension and extensive aerodynamics. The 500-kilometer endurance event at Suzuka was among the prestigious items on the Japanese calendar of the day and drew foreign crews as well.

Building and painting tips

On racing cars it is the quality of the paintwork and the cleanliness of the decals that decide the result. Degrease the body first, sand the parting lines down and spray a filler primer, and only then the paint. Light racing shades hold better over a white base. Before applying the decals, coat the area with a gloss varnish, settle the decals into the recesses with a softener and, once they have dried, seal them with a second coat of varnish. Spray and fit the interior, the cage and the chassis before you close the body up. Seat belts and small wiring can be added well from photo-etched parts or thin wire.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Japanese circuit cars of the 1990s
  • Modelers with experience of painting bodies and of decals
  • Builders of display collections in 1:24 scale
  • Anyone interested in endurance racing at the Suzuka circuit

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is a classic kit. The parts are cut from the sprues, cemented, filled and then sprayed with paint. Neither paints nor glue are in the package.

You will find the exact number of parts and the extent of the decal schemes in the enclosed instructions.

The body of a racing car pays off sprayed with an airbrush over a filler primer. Apply a gloss varnish under the decals and, once they have dried, seal them with a second coat. Choose the shades according to the enclosed instructions.

Rather not. A car kit in 1:24 scale calls for careful painting and work with decals, which is demanding for a first model.
