The Toyota Crown was among the flagships of the marque and was for whole decades the typical Japanese representative car: a longitudinally mounted inline six, rear-wheel drive, a comfortable suspension and rich equipment. The generation with the MS110 designation came at the end of the 1970s and carried the angular design typical of the Japanese upper class of the day. The hardtop body variant was marked by a suppressed frame to the side windows, which gave the car a lighter, more elegant line. The Royal Saloon designation belonged to the highest trim levels. In Japan the Crown was also widely used as a company and official car, so it is among the immediately recognizable silhouettes of the streets of the period.
A large angular body is demanding for the finish: it pays to sand the parting seams down carefully, wash the part and apply a base coat, and only then the paint in thin layers. Representative cars of this type come out well in darker metallic shades or, conversely, in pearl white — with metallics, do not forget to stir the paint thoroughly and to apply it onto a smooth base, because a metallic finish picks out every unevenness. There is a great deal of chromed trim on this subject; for bringing it out, metallic paint applied with a fine brush or a glossy foil is more suitable than a heavy layer of silver. The interior is brought to life by distinguishing the textile and plastic surfaces and by fine shading of the wood trim.
