This set is not a model of an aircraft. It is replacement armament for a large scale: according to the name, two pieces of the Vickers aviation machine gun in the French form with an extended loading handle. It is precisely the extended handle that is the recognition feature — a pilot in an open cockpit had to be able to reach it in order to clear a stoppage in flight, and in 1:24 scale it is a prominent, clearly visible detail.
The Vickers was a British aviation machine gun that came about by adapting the ground weapon for installation ahead of the pilot and for synchronized firing through the propeller arc. The water jacket gave way to a lightened, perforated or entirely removed cover, because the ram airflow provided the cooling by itself. The weapon also served in the French air service, and in its armament modifications to the controls arose that matched local practice; among them is the extended loading handle that this form carries.
In a large scale there is nowhere to hide an unfinished job, but at the same time it is good to work in. The weapon is usually mounted ahead of the cockpit, so first try the seating dry and check that the handle does not foul the fuselage cover or the frame of the windscreen. Wash the resin and sand the cut left by the casting block wet. Painting: dark metal as a base, then fine rubs of a lighter shade on the edges and the jacket, and finally an oil glaze to unify it. Accent the holes in the jacket with a dark wash, which stays in them and creates depth.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as resin parts to be finished. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
