About product

Alois Vasatko, Part IV: decals and masks 1:32, AML Decals

The fourth part of the range from the Czech maker AML Decals devoted to the fighter pilot Alois Vasatko. The 1:32 box combines a decal sheet with self-adhesive masking stencils, so it covers both spraying the color scheme and marking it afterward. It is not a kit or a finished model but an addition to a model you build yourself. The range revolves around the Curtiss Hawk 75 and the Supermarine Spitfire, the machines connected with the French and the British stages of the pilot's service.

The real subject

The Curtiss Hawk 75 was the export form of an American fighter with a radial engine and a fixed undercarriage. In France in 1940 it was among the most maneuverable machines the defense had available, and it was on it that Alois Vasatko scored most of his victories. After the fall of France he carried on the fight in Great Britain, where he moved to the Supermarine Spitfire with No. 312 (Czechoslovak) Squadron RAF, later commanded that unit and became the first commander of the Czechoslovak Fighter Wing. He was killed in 1942.

Usage tips

Work with the masks first: stick them onto a degreased and cured base coat, press the outline down with a toothpick and lay the paint on in thin coats, otherwise it will run under the film. Remove the stencils shortly after the paint has dried. Only then varnish the places for the decals with a gloss coat, cut the motifs out closely, soak them in warm water and, once transferred to the model, settle them with a decal softener and a damp brush. A final matte varnish hides the edges of the carrier film and unifies the surface.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building large aircraft in 1:32 scale
  • Anyone interested in the history of Czechoslovak airmen in France and Britain
  • Builders who want accurate camouflage transitions without lengthy masking
  • Collectors completing the earlier parts of this range

The box holds only decals and masking stencils. A kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. The box holds decals and masking stencils; a kit in 1:32 scale has to be obtained separately.

No, each part stands on its own. The earlier parts do come in useful if you want to build a complete set of the pilot's machines.

The Curtiss Hawk 75 of the French period and the Supermarine Spitfire of the period of service in Great Britain.

The masks and the paint first, then a gloss varnish once cured and only then the decals. A matte varnish at the end.
