The dials, bezels and switches have relief, so once applied the panel comes across as having depth. The set is not a kit and not photo-etching – it is applied in the same way as a decal, onto the sanded-down plastic panel from the box. We recommend checking the match with the model you are building.
The Curtiss P-40E Warhawk is an American single-engine fighter with an Allison V engine, a radiator under the nose and six machine guns in the wing. Against the early versions it had reworked armament and cockpit fittings, so the instrument panel differs from the earlier machines of the Tomahawk line. The type came into its own in the Pacific and North African theaters and was widely supplied to Allied users. In 1:32 scale the cockpit of the P-40 is well accessible and with the canopy open the instrument panel is one of the first places the eye falls on.
Sand the relief of the plastic panel from the kit smooth and spray it over with matte dark paint, so that no plastic shows through under the thin film. Snip the printed panel out tightly along the outline, soak it for a few seconds in lukewarm water and let it rest. Seat it damp, push the bubbles out carefully with a soft brush and do not press, so that the three-dimensional effect is not squashed. Dose decal softener sparingly and in layers. Once completely dry you can go over the individual dials with a drop of gloss varnish imitating glass and fix the panel with matte varnish. Work in good light, because relief printing is easily damaged by a fingernail or by tweezers with sharp jaws.
The set holds printed parts on decal paper. The kit, paints and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
