About product

The most numerous Anton

The Fw 190A-8 became the most built sub-version of the whole family and at the same time its heaviest form. The BMW 801D-2 engine could work for short periods at a raised boost pressure, a tank for another one hundred and twenty-five liters was added into the fuselage behind the cockpit, and with it a shift of the center of gravity that pilots had to learn to live with. Above the engine sat no longer small-caliber machine guns as on the older versions, but a pair of 13 mm weapons whose larger magazines printed into the shape of the cowling. Some of the machines received heavier armor and heavy cannons in the wing for attacks on formations of four-engine bombers.

What is in the bag

Masking films for both sides of the glazing, a pair of national insignia and a pair of turned metal muzzles for the machine guns above the engine.

A diameter that does not change

A plastic molding is never made as an exact cylinder. For the part to come out of the mold it has to have draft, so the barrel is thicker at the root and tapers into a cone toward the muzzle. In a photograph of a model it looks as if the weapon narrowed, which a real barrel does not do. A turned part has one diameter along its whole length and a narrowing only where there really was one: at the chamfered edge of the muzzle. The difference is inconspicuous, but it is exactly such small things that separate a neatly built model from a model that looks like a photograph of a real machine.

A practical note on the glass

The glazing of the Focke-Wulf is fairly flat and the frame has sharp edges, which makes masking easier. Offer the film up dry, align it along one of the longer edges and only then press it down from the center toward the edges so that no air is trapped under it. Pierce any bubble that appears even so with a needle and run a toothpick over it.

FAQ

From the later sub-versions the weapons above the engine replaced the older smaller-caliber machine guns, which shows on the model in the shape of the cowling and in the diameter of the muzzles.

It has no molding draft. A plastic part tapers conically from the root to the muzzle, while turned metal keeps the same diameter along its whole length.

Two, separately for the outer and for the inner side of the glazing.

Decals are not stated here; these are masks and metal parts.
