According to the name the nozzles are worked up in the closed, that is narrowed position, which the aircraft has with the engines running at a lower setting. The open variant and a set with both positions are offered separately, so base your choice on how you want to show the model. The set does not replace the kit; check the exact number of parts on the packaging.
The Tomcat was a two-seat carrier fighter with a variable-geometry wing, committed with the US Navy from the 1970s. The F-14D version was given General Electric F110-GE-400 engines and upgraded avionics and was the last production form of the type. The exhaust nozzles of its engines differ in shape from the earlier versions and their position changes markedly with the running setting, which modelers make use of when building both parked and taxiing machines.
Wash the parts in water with detergent, cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and true the seating surface so that the nozzle meets the fuselage with no visible step. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The closed position is more enclosed to look at, so the surface of the petals stands out all the more: apply the metal shade in thin layers onto a smooth gloss base and handle the transition into the heat discoloration with soft gradations from an airbrush. Apply the soot only restrainedly, otherwise it looks unnatural.
