Pmask 1:32 National Insignia Series, Hawker Typhoon and Tempest RAF

A set of die-cut self-adhesive masks from the National Insignia Series line of the Polish maker Pmask, prepared for British national insignia on models of the Hawker Typhoon and the Hawker Tempest in 1:32 scale. The insignia are sprayed through the template and become part of the finish, so no carrier film and no glossy edge stay on the model.

The real subject

The Hawker Typhoon made its name as a heavy fighter-bomber for strikes on ground targets. The Tempest grew out of its structure with a new, thinner wing and was among the fastest British fighters at low altitude. Late in the war both types carried prominent black and white identification stripes, so painted markings and accurate masking pay off with them especially well.

Use and tips

• Apply the template only to a fully cured camouflage finish.
• Press the edges down carefully, so that paint cannot creep under them.
• Apply the colors one after another, in thin coats and at low pressure.
• Take the mask off before the last coat has fully cured.
