Four decal sheets for Russian Nieuport type 21 machines from 1916 to 1919. They offer thirty-five specific aircraft including machines of training schools and one machine of the Czechoslovak forces in Russia.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Nieuport type 21 came about as a lightened counterpart to the Nieuport 17 fighter with a less powerful engine. The typical sesquiplane with a narrow lower wing reached Russia in large numbers and served in two ways: with frontline detachments as a light fighter and in the rear as a machine on which future fighter pilots learned to fly more powerful equipment.
The sheet covers thirty-five specific aircraft with serial numbers from 1292 to 2239. Represented are corps air detachments from the 2nd to the 32nd, the detachment of the Grenadier Corps, the naval aviation school and the officers' flying school in Sevastopol. Among the named machines you will find the aircraft of Captain Evgraf Kruten from the spring of 1917, the machine of Ensign Vladimir Kaminsky from September 1917 and the aircraft of Ensign Vsevolod Yakovlev from August of the same year.
Roughly a third of the options fall as late as 1919, when the same aircraft flew under new insignia. Alongside machines of the Volunteer Army and of the 1st Ukrainian air detachment, the sheet also holds a Nieuport of the Czechoslovak forces in Russia, which is probably the most interesting item in the whole set.
The material is divided into four sheets, so you do not have to hunt for serial numbers and emblems among crowded motifs. A gloss base is recommended before application, and sealing with varnish once dry according to how much weathering you want to show on the fabric covering.
