Masks for the Republic P-47D with the bubble canopy in 1:32 scale. They mask the glazing from both faces and add four insignia masks and decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt went through a change in its late production batches that altered its silhouette completely. The fuselage decking behind the cockpit disappeared and, in place of a divided cockpit with glazing in the sides, a one-piece blown canopy took over. For the first time the pilot could see to the rear without turning his body, and with the cockpit open came a different way of sliding it, because the whole bubble ran back along rails into a recess behind the seat.
Masking such an area is a different discipline from a divided cockpit. There is no bar here for the cut to lean on and everything rests on the perimeter edge, where the bubble seats against the fuselage. It also has to skirt the small windscreen, which stayed separate and has a frame of its own. The set carries a layer of parts from the outside and the inside, which with a perfectly transparent bubble pays off more than anywhere else, because the inner face is visible across the whole area. Alongside the four national insignia masks, decals are included as well.
On a blown shape, lay the mask from the highest point and work toward the edges, otherwise a surplus of carrier forms that has nowhere to hide. Apply the paint in several thin passes.
