A sheet in 1:32 with three Spitfire Mk.IX of British and Polish service, completed by masks for the yellow leading-edge stripes of the wing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Spitfire Mk.IX came about as a quick solution to the situation when a more capable German fighter appeared over the Channel. A two-stage supercharged engine was built into the airframe of the fifth version, by which the aircraft regained its advantage at great altitude. The LF subversion had the engine tuned for lower levels and tended to be completed with clipped wingtips.
Two subjects belong to one man, Wing Commander Aleksander Gabszewicz. The older of them, the aircraft with the serial EN526 in the F version, flew from Northolt airfield in the summer of 1943, and the newer machine NH342 in the LF version during 1944; both carry his personal code letter beside the unit insignia. The third subject is the aircraft MJ250 of the British No. 601 Squadron, nicknamed after the County of London, which operated in Italy in the summer of 1944.
Besides the decals themselves the package holds masking stencils for the yellow stripes on the leading edges of the wing. A sprayed stripe looks better than a decal of the same shape, because it avoids the film breaking over the edge of the section. The stencils are stuck on, sprayed over in yellow and lifted off before the paint has fully cured.
