About product

German lilac linen faded to pink – 1:32, white opaque base

This Aviattic decal sheet in 1:32 scale brings one of the most interesting forms of the covering of German First World War aircraft: lilac-dyed fabric which, under the influence of sun and weather, faded into pink tones. The uneven, warm fading is part of the printing itself, as is the fine structure of the weave – the model thus gains a surface you will not easily create with a brush or an airbrush. The white opaque base guarantees full coverage and a constant resulting shade regardless of the color of the coat under the decal.

The real subject

The German air service of the First World War used a surprisingly wide palette of dyed fabrics for its covering – alongside blue ones, violet and lilac tones as well. The pigments of the day, however, were not stable: violet quickly lost its blue component in the sun and the covering shifted toward pink. Faded lilac fabric is therefore a typical sign of machines with longer front-line service, and on a model it looks fresh yet historically credible.

Application tips

  • Work on a gloss base and cut the sheet up panel by panel and area by area.
  • Let the softener work and press the decal down gently on the ribs.
  • A matte varnish at the end will even the surface out and suppress the sheen.
  • A discreet dust filter will complete the pink tone – do not overdo the weathering, the fading is already in the printing.

Who the sheet is for

For modelers of German First World War machines in 1:32 scale who want an unusual but documented look of the covering and who build an aircraft in its service form. An excellent choice when you want to stand apart from the usual schemes.

This is a decal sheet – an add-on to a kit, not a standalone model. The extent of the sheets is governed by the data on the packaging.

FAQ

Originally lilac-dyed fabric lost the blue component of its pigment in the sun and shifted toward pink tones. The sheet reproduces that faded state faithfully.

Yes, the manufacturer offers lilac linen in a rich factory shade as a separate sheet.

Onto a gloss base panel by panel, with a decal softener on the curves. Once dry, go over it with a matte varnish.
