This item from the Polish maker Aber is a turned metal barrel in 1:35 scale, intended for a model of the Polish PL-01 light armored vehicle concept. It is not a model and nothing can be built from it on its own. It replaces the plastic barrel from the main kit, the one part that is always troublesome on models of armored vehicles. Turned metal brings a perfectly straight axis, a circular cross-section with no parting line and a precisely drilled muzzle, which on a plastic part can only be imitated by laborious drilling and sanding.
The PL-01 is a Polish concept vehicle in the class of light armored vehicles for direct fire support, presented as a technology demonstrator. It is distinguished by a low silhouette with pronounced faceted outer panels meant to reduce its radar and thermal signature. The main armament of the concept is given as 105 mm, which is what this barrel corresponds to. It is a development project, not equipment taken into series production.
Cut the plastic barrel off with a saw or a cutting disc at a right angle to the axis and level the face on abrasive paper laid on glass, or the metal barrel will sit crooked. Degrease the metal with alcohol before gluing; grease from your fingers is the main reason a barrel later falls out. It is glued with superglue, and on a larger contact area a slower, thicker type is advisable, as it gives you time to line things up. Check the axis of the barrel by eye from the front and from above before the glue sets. A primer for metal in two thin coats is needed before painting. Darken the muzzle slightly after painting; on metal it reads differently than on plastic.
This is an add-on part for a kit you already own. The model, paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
