The Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. H is the most numerous version of the German Panzer IV medium tank. It carried the 7.5 cm KwK 40 gun with a barrel 48 calibers long, that is lengthened against the earlier form. The L/48 figure is exactly that length expressed in multiples of the caliber; do not confuse it with the caliber itself, which stays 7.5 cm. The muzzle brake went through several shapes during production and this barrel carries the form from the middle part of the series. It is by the brake that the individual variants are most easily told apart on a model.

The cross section stays circular along the whole length and the muzzle is open. There is no lengthwise joint of the kind you have to sand down on a part made from two halves, and in cleaning up which the barrel loses its roundness. On a long slender barrel such as the KwK 40 L/48 this shows up most, because even a small deviation from the axis is magnified over its length.
Seat the barrel dry, check the alignment against the turret and only then fix it with cyanoacrylate glue. Before painting, wash the surface, degrease it and lay down a base coat, otherwise the top layer rubs off while the model is handled. Darken the muzzle at the end so that the opening looks deep.
The barrel is supplied on its own. The model, glue and paints are not included, unless stated otherwise.
