About product

Armament for the Soviet JS-7 heavy tank in 1:35 scale (Aber, long muzzle brake)

This is a metal detail set, not a tank kit. The box holds a turned 130 mm gun barrel with the long muzzle brake, two barrels for the 14.5 mm heavy machine guns and six barrels for the 7.62 mm machine guns. The set replaces the plastic parts on a 1:35 JS-7 model and a small photo-etched fret for the fitting comes with it. It is made by the Polish company Aber, which has long specialized in turned metal barrels and photo-etched detail.

The real subject

The JS-7 (Object 260) was a Soviet experimental heavy tank from the second half of the 1940s. With a combat weight of around 68 tons it was among the heaviest Soviet tracked vehicles of its day, and its steeply sloped frontal armor formed the characteristic pike nose. The main weapon was a 130 mm gun derived from naval armament, backed by an unusually numerous battery of machine guns. The vehicle stayed at the prototype stage and never reached series production, yet its looks make it a rewarding modeling subject. This version of the set matches the prototype with the long muzzle brake; a separate set covers the variant with the short brake.

Fitting and painting tips

Degrease the metal barrels with alcohol or dish soap first, or the paint will not hold on them. To glue them into plastic use cyanoacrylate glue or two-part epoxy – ordinary plastic cement does not work on metal. The muzzles are drilled out, so there is no drilling and no sanding of a mold seam. Lay down a primer intended for metal before painting and only then the base shade. Darken the inside of the muzzle brake and the muzzle itself with a dark oil paint or a pigment so that the barrel does not look flat.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building Soviet heavy armor in 1:35 scale
  • Anyone bothered by mold seams and the inaccurate muzzles of plastic barrels
  • Builders of competition and display models
  • Anyone interested in experimental postwar vehicles

This is not a model kit but a detail accessory. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
