The real subject

The Sd.Kfz. 251 was a German half-track armored personnel carrier, intended in the 251/1 version to carry infantry. The Ausf. D form is the late, production-simplified one: it has straight sides, a simpler rear and stowage bins recessed into the sides of the superstructure. The inside of the hull stayed largely in view on these vehicles, so on a model with the crew compartment open every simplified part shows.

What the set contains

Photo-etched metal parts to complete the plastic kit of this vehicle. By its designation this is the seventh part of the range, that is, an add-on set following on from the basic set, focused on the rear seats and the stowage bin. How many parts the set has, and which kit it is cut to fit, are given in the manufacturer's instructions; go through them before you start building, because with interior fittings the order of work matters.

Building and painting tips

• Finish and paint the inside of the hull before you fit the upper parts of the superstructure.
• Cut the parts away with a sharp blade on a hard surface, do not break them out of the sheet.
• Make the bends along the scored groove; the seats are folded up from several bent faces.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate glue dosed from the tip of a pin.
• Degrease the parts before painting and lay down a coat of primer, otherwise the finish will not hold on metal.

Who it is for

It will be appreciated by anyone building a model with the crew compartment open who wants the interior fittings in a material of the right thickness. The work is fine and tweezers and good light pay off. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
