Turned barrels for the Russian cruiser Varyag in 1:350 scale from Aber: a metal replacement for the gun barrels. It is not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of turned metal barrels in 1:350 scale for a model of the Russian cruiser Varyag. This is not a kit but a replacement for the plastic barrels on a finished model. In a very small scale the barrel is exactly the part that never comes out well in plastic: it tends to be thick, out of true and with a mold seam along it. Turned metal, by contrast, is straight and thin and has an open muzzle.
The Varyag was a Russian protected cruiser of the beginning of the twentieth century, famous for the fight at Chemulpo at the start of the Russo-Japanese War. The ship and her escort refused to surrender to a superior force and, after an unequal engagement, she was scuttled by her own crew. The story became part of naval tradition and the Varyag is among the best-known Russian ships of that time, so modelers build her often.
The barrels are small, so handle them with tweezers over a tray with a raised edge. Cut the plastic barrel off and drill the mating surface so that the pin of the metal barrel seats but does not go right through. Degrease the metal with alcohol and apply primer, otherwise the paint will not hold. They are glued with super glue, that is with cyanoacrylate, and really drop by drop. Fit the barrels only at the end of the build, otherwise they will bend during handling.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
